Body Image & Confidence Speaker for Secondary Schools
Helping students build self-worth that has nothing to do with how they look.
BOOK JEMMA FOR YOUR SCHOOL
Your students are growing up in the hardest environment for body image in history.
Social media filters. Constant comparison. A multi-billion-dollar industry telling them their bodies are problems to be solved. And all of this piling on top of hormones, figuring out what they want to do with their lives, and the regular difficulties of being a teenager!
You're seeing the impact in your classrooms every day — the girls who won't eat at lunch, the students whose confidence has completely collapsed, the undercurrent of appearance-based cruelty that teachers don't quite know how to address.
My school talks address it directly.
The Confidence Myth
Beating the Inner Mean Girl & Building Real Self-Confidence
In this honest, engaging, and genuinely memorable talk, body image speaker Jemma Rose shares her personal journey through years of body dissatisfaction and diet culture — and the powerful realisation that confidence has nothing to do with how your body looks.
Jemma doesn't lecture. She connects with the younger audience. With warmth, humour, and zero fluff, she creates a room where students feel safe enough to actually absorb what she's saying, and leave with tools they'll remember and put into practice.
What students will walk away with
- ✓A clear understanding of how social media and diet culture shape the way they see themselves
- ✓Strategies to recognise and challenge negative self-talk and the 'inner mean girl'
- ✓Practical tools to build self-confidence and self-awareness
- ✓A different relationship with comparison, and an understanding of why it damages confidence rather than motivating it
- ✓Respect and empathy for all bodies (even those that look different from their own)
- ✓The knowledge and ability to approach social media more critically and confidently
Why your school needs this talk, right now
Australia has introduced restrictions on social media access for under-16s, and while that's a step forward, it's not solving the whole problem. The deeper work is helping young people build critical thinking and self-worth before the algorithm gets to them.
This talk gives students the internal foundation and resilience to navigate online spaces more confidently — whether they're 12 or 16, whether they're already on Instagram or still a few years away.
Jemma helps students build confidence and critical thinking before social media shapes their self-worth.
BOOK JEMMA FOR YOUR SCHOOLWhat schools get out of it
Beyond the students feeling good in the room, the ripple effects are real:
- Reduced appearance-based bullying and comparison between students
- Increased confidence, resilience and self-awareness
- Improved classroom engagement and focus
- Support for student mental health and wellbeing initiatives
- A more inclusive and respectful culture around bodies and appearance
Who is this for?
Year 9–10
This is when body image concerns, social comparison, and identity pressure tend to peak. This is often where the most urgent need sits.
Year 7–8
This is the opportunity to get ahead. Getting in before students have unrestricted social media access means you're building the foundation first, not doing damage control later.
This talk works as a standalone event or as part of a broader wellbeing day, health week, or health/physical education program. It can accommodate a single year group or a multi-level assembly.
Jemma is available to speak at secondary schools in Tasmania or Australia-wide.
